Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha will help to establish Sasana (the Teachings of the Buddha) in the West by training lay people at their Yangon Center.
The long-term goal of this effort will be to establish a solid training in dana (generosity), sila (ethical intelligence), bhavana (mind-heart training) for lay people and a training course for lay teachers in the pedagogical approach to teaching mindfulness (insight) meditation in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw.
Moreover, there may emerge over time an ethical component that addresses how to live in the world as a mindful, dhamma practitioner and supporter of the Sasana.
The Buddha Sasana Foundation (BSF) USA/Canada would like the first few years of retreats at MSY to be the beginning of a recognized program to:
(1) train sincere yogis in the basic trainings and foundations of dana, sila, bhavana.
(2) train lay yogi teachers capable of instructing Westerners in their own countries so that the Mahasi mindfulness method of meditation and dhamma teachings may further gain a solid foothold in the West.
